FIELD LEAD
We are looking for an experienced seabird field technician to lead our research and monitoring program at Machias Seal Island in summer 2024. The field lead will be responsible for ensuring all data is collected following established protocols.

ABOUT
Our field team of 3-4 individuals live on Machias Seal Island for up to 16 weeks each summer and complete a variety of tasks including monitoring reproductive success & chick growth, banding and resighting among other tasks for six species of seabirds.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous experience leading seabird field research and/or a minimum of 3 seasons of field experience required.
  • Demonstrated experience managing time and people, and ability to coordinate multiple projects.
  • Demonstrated record of safe seabird handling & banding, and the ability to obtain a banding sub-permit in Canada
  • Previous experience bleeding birds and/or deploying/retrieving GLS or GPS devices an asset
  • Positive, hard-working, and enthusiastic; able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Current workplace First Aid with CPR required

COMPENSATION

  • Return transportation from Saint John to MSI, food & lodging on island are provided
  • $500-$600 CAD per week (depending on experience)
