Description
The School of Aquatic and Fishery Sciences (SAFS; http://fish.washington.edu) at the University of Washington (UW) is seeking one full-time (100% FTE) faculty member in the Without Tenure (WOT) track at the Assistant rank who conducts research on marine top predators such as marine mammals, seabirds, turtles, and large fishes. The position has a 12-month service period, and will be supported by three months of salary annually from the University of Washington combined with research grants obtained by the successful candidate.
All UW faculty engage in research, teaching, mentorship, and service. This position will lead a strong, extramurally funded research program, mentor graduate and undergraduate students, and postdoctoral researcher, teach one undergraduate course annually in the field of marine top predators, and serve on committees and panels as needed. There will be opportunities for collaboration with external partners including government agencies, tribal governments/First Nations, and non-governmental organizations.
This position will contribute to the University's distinctive educational objectives, which include interdisciplinary perspectives, intercultural understanding, and concern with social responsibility and the ethical implications of knowledge and action. SAFS is a dedicated team of educators, enabling our students to successfully explore and interpret the rich array of disciplines and perspectives contained within the aquatic and fishery sciences. This position will engage in research, teaching, or service that fulfills our commitment to advancing equity and inclusion and fully engages audiences from a wide spectrum of backgrounds.
The University of Washington has a unique natural setting from which to base research and education. SAFS is housed within the University’s College of the Environment, which provides a broad interdisciplinary and global position for education and basic and applied research. SAFS maintains unique research and teaching facilities, such as the UW Fish Collection, and field stations in the San Juan Islands and southwestern Alaska.

Qualifications
PhD in Biology or other relevant field (or foreign equivalent) required. PhD conferral required by date of appointment.
