Crescent Coastal Research is seeking 2 Biological Technicians for a seasonal term from 15 May to 31 July 2017 conducting vessel-based transects. Population Monitoring of Marbled Murrelets is the objective.
1) Conducting surveys of marine wildlife and human use of the near- shore waters using the protocol developed by the Northwest Forest Plan (see Raphael et. al 2007 and other program products at http://www.reo.gov/monitoring/mm-overview.shtml). The crew of 3 conducts line and strip transects from 21 ft. vessels following a prescribed transect route from ¼ to 2 miles offshore. 2) Operation of 20 to 22 ft. vessels in near-shore waters and in ports. 3) Driving private vehicles and trailering vessels along the coast. 4) Tent camping and cooperative living with other crew members. 5) Data transcription and entry, maintenance of data and equipment.
BS degree or equivalent training in biology/marine sciences, Boat operation and trailoring experience Familiarity with local marine avifauna and marine mammals Ability to maintain flexible schedule and work cooperatively
Wage basis: $2,000 - 2,600 / month plus some per diem. Some short term (daily) basis work may be an option for experienced people local to the area.
