PhD Cape Verde

We are currently looking for a PhD student to join our research team on seabird ecology, evolution and conservation at the Barcelona University, Spain. The candidate will participate in the research project on the conservation biology of the Fea’s petrel Pterodroma feae in Cape Verde. The project aims to find the main breeding areas of the species in Fogo, Santiago, Santo Antão and São Nicolau islands, to identify the main threats suffered by this species, to control cat and rat populations on the breeding colony, to increase awareness in the local communities to the need for conservation of this species, and to investigate its breeding, feeding and migrating ecology. For this particular position we seek a candidate to apply for the present FCT call for PhD grants (15th June – 15th July 2016) and with the following merits and abilities:

  1. That comply all the conditions required to apply for a FCT grant

  2. BSc or MSc degree in Biology, Environmental Sciences or related disciplines

  3. Fluent English

  4. Capability to work independently and live in Cape Verde from November to April and in Barcelona the rest of the year

  5. An excellent academic record (equal or over 16)

  6. Highly motivated persons with field-work experience, climbing skills and interest in ecology and birds will be prioritized
