Is anyone doing CBC's on seabird bloods?
Hi, yes. I do total WBC counts (Neubauer method) and differentials on terns. I am also doing differentials on penguins and chameleons.
I have CBC's on northern fulmars, and Josh Adams has them for sooty shearwaters; all from California.
We are working with many sea birds (alcids, gannets and occasional petrels etc), terns, along with charadriiformes and sea ducks in a rehabilitation setting and are finding it challenging to locate normal ranges for some approximate values from healthy free living birds. I am glad to see some values may be available, thank you. Does anyone know of a website that holds such data? One species I am trying to get data on are the white winged scoters - can anyone help?
I don't know of any website for this type of data, although that would be nice!
For WWSC, perhaps OWCN in CA might have some data? http://www.vetmed.ucdavis.edu/owcn/
I think they are busy with the Santa Barbara oil spill right now, but perhaps someone could help.
Another group might be the WA Department of Fish and Wildlife Waterfowl Ecology group - http://wdfw.wa.gov/conservation/research/projects/waterfowl/puget_sound_scoters/
