My main research interests are in morphology and systematics (including taxonomy) of birds, with emphasis on seabirds. My current projects involve developing phenotype-based hypotheses of phylogenetic relationships for selected groups of seabirds, and studying seabird cranial morphology as it relates to feeding behaviour. I am also interested in theoretical and philosophical aspects of cladistics, and collaborate in studies on shorebird ecology and migration.
